On December 5, 1998, the Historic Site of Lyon was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This area of nearly 400 hectares is made up of Old Lyon, the Presqu'île and the Croix-Rousse’ slopes, 3 districts that testimonies the history and development of the city over more than 2000 years!
The UNESCO label was a new start for LYON, which at the time was more famous for its traffic jams and the chemical factories!Since 1998 and over the years, Lyon has changed its image and forged a new identity.
Today, Lyon is renown for its exceptional architectural heritage, a rich history, a high place of gastronomy but above all a city with a high quality of live with many parks, cycle paths and pedestrian streets.
In 2016, Lyon was voted best European weekend destination at The World Travel Awards.
